A pink and blue toi et moi diamond ring scored nearly double its high estimate at the most recent jewellery sale at Bonhams, fetching GBP 3 million ($3.7 million).
The Mouawad jewel featured a radiant-cut, 5.03-carat, fancy-intense-blue diamond obliquely set with a radiant-cut, 5.13-carat, fancy-purple-pink diamond. The ring, which carried a high estimate of GBP 1.5 million ($1.9 million), was the top seller at the June 13 London Jewels auction, Bonhams said last week.
In total, Bonhams garnered GBP 6.6 million ($8.4 million) from the sale, with 78% of items finding buyers. Jewels from well-known design houses, including Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Bulgari were among the top lots.
Other highlights included a diamond fringe necklace, circa 1950. Designed with graduated baguette- and brilliant-cut diamonds and pear-shaped diamond drops, it fetched GBP 254,400 ($322,993), within its estimates. A ring bearing a cushion-shaped, 7.10-carat Burmese ruby and diamonds raked in GBP 216,300 ($274,374), more than three times its high estimate, Meanwhile, a 19th-century diamond rivière necklace also surpassed its GBP 165,500 upper price.
Other items also exceeded expectations, among them a ring with a step-cut, 10.01-carat, fancy-intense-yellow diamond and shield-cut diamond shoulders, which sold for GBP 165,500 ($209,941), more than double its high estimate. A Rubel Frères Art Deco diamond necklace from around 1925 brought in GBP 165,500, nearly triple its top price.
