Lucara recovers exceptional 2,492ct Rough
August 22, 2024Lucara Diamond Corp. has announced the recovery of an extraordinary 2,492 carat diamond from its Karowe Mine in Botswana, one of the largest rough diamonds ever found. The diamond was detected using Lucara’s advanced Mega Diamond Recovery (MDR) X-ray Transmission (XRT) technology, installed in 2017. This discovery further solidifies Karowe’s status as a world-class diamond source and highlights Lucara's success in producing large, high-quality stones, including previous finds like the 1,758 carat Sewelô and the 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona. Lucara’s President and CEO, William Lamb, emphasized the significance of this discovery, which underscores the effectiveness of their cutting-edge technology and the mine’s continued impact on Botswana’s socio-economic development.
